At first, I used to go by GrimGeist, but that name didn’t feel original. I wanted a new name, and I wanted it to be more unique, yet I can still be called Grim. So one day I googled “words that start with grim,” and looked through a website for words beginning with grim. The word that popped out to me the most was grimoire. A Grimoire is a book that contains magic spells. It’s also called a book of spells or just a spellbook. This word popped out because I am a gothic person who’s into witchy things. And as a bonus, a grimoire can summon angels, demons, spirits, deities, and probably more. My real name is based on an angel from the Bible; however, I am also into spirits, demons, and deities. My character is a demon that collects spirits after all.
So I used Grimoire as the base of my name (I guess you could say that Grimoire is like the rough draft or sketch of my name), but then I realized something when it came to the previous names that I used to call myself. I used to go by the name Rubiez, but to make it seem “better looking”, I changed it into Rubyz. So I decided to do the same thing for Grimiore. To be sure, I googled if the word Grym existed, which it does. Grym is a Swedish word that contains both positive and negative definitions. The negative definition means cruel, heartless, sinister, and mean, similar to the English word grim. The positive definition means cool, nice, awesome, amazing, fantastic, good, or great; similar to the slang meaning of the English words wicked or sick. I can relate to both definitions because they describe how I treat others based on how they treat me or others. If they’re cruel, I will be cruel back. If they’re cool, I will be cool back. So from that forward, I changed Grimoire to Grymoire.
But it still didn’t feel unique enough for me, so I googled other ways to say grimoire in different languages. What I got from it is the term “grimorio,” which is how you say grimoire in Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish. So I turned it from Grymoire to Grymorio. I was going to stick to that name at first, but turns out someone had already taken the name on either Twitter or Twitch (I forgot which one specifically), so I decided to follow the Spanish grammar rule when you want to describe something as masculine or feminine. When a word ends with an “o,” it is described as masculine, but when it ends with an “a,” it’s described as feminine. Even though I’m Agender, I am still assigned female at birth, which doesn’t bother me at all. So I decided to change my name from Grymorio to Grymoria.
There was a time when I was feeling gender dysphoria towards the name because I thought that it was too feminine, but it helped me realize that there are various male names that end with an “a”. I mainly paid attention to the ones from Dragon Ball since I have been fond of the series since childhood. Like, for example, Vegeta, Dabura, Frieza, Champa, Yamcha, and more. Even the creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama, is a male whose first name ends with an A. So I’ve decided to stick with Grymoria permanently. I had this name for about 5 years, and I recently realized that this name also suits me well because I am a writer/blogger and may want to become a journalist, and again, the name is based on the word grimoire, which is a BOOK of spells. This name is so perfect for me as a person and for my branding. I have this name on almost any app or website that I am on because I love it so much, and I doubt that I would ever change it.
